Crystallized Columns in the Cariboo EarthCache GC11ABR
I have posted my answer to the cache owner and have included it in the post here. DO NOT COPY IT WORD FOR WORD!!! Please post a note to the cache owner BEFORE posting the find on geocacging.com.
-- PGgeodude
1. Using the surrounding landscape contours and the fact that the columnar joints form perpendicular to the flow of lava, guestimate what general direction the lava was flowing.
From the lines of the hill, I would guess that the lava flowed SSW and the leading edge is what is now exposed. The comment in the description about the columns being perpendicular to the flow leads me to think that the flow may have been WNW. I think I will stick with SSW. I would be interested in additional information on that.
I did look up Devils Tower. Very interesting site. Thank you for the Earth cache.
ALSO,
2. Post at least one picture of the columns and your GPS.
3. Indicate in your log the number of people in your group.
This was posted for our group by PGNighthawks.
Our group was:
PGgeodude, PGbuizel, PGjewel, PGraisen, 1JAM, lilyhopper, tnerraw, tinker2689, 3toedmystery, swiftarrow, trisso3, lavender dragonfly. I hope I got everyone...

That was an awsome adventure. And to get "Above & Beyond" Platinum was an awsome feat.

April 19 change
We have made a number of changes in the calendar. As this year gets closer to an end and we try and get everything finished up there will be more adjustments as needed.
April 19th was scheduled as a bottle drive: To help finish off the photos for the church, we have changed that evening to a "TLT-Take Photos" evening.
Everyone is expected to show up for Pathfinders, but the TLTs will be shooting photos in the next room. If you have any bookwork you need to catch up on, this would be a good evening for that, and if not, we will have an activity for you to do.
Thanks.

BC Hydro Contest
"Hydro seeking nominations for contest
Written by Mark Nielsen
Wednesday, 20 January 2010 - Prince George Citizen
"B.C. Hydro is asking youth in Grades 4 to 12 to nominate a not-for-profit organization, community group or environmentally-focused school group to be their local community champion and be awarded up to $1,000 towards their programs.
That's the idea behind the B.C. Hydro community champion award, now in its fourth year. Preference is given to initiatives that assist young people in understanding and participating in environment activities in local communities.
To participate in this program, go to www.bchydro.com/community for an application. The class nomination needs to be 100-250 words describing how the organization, group, or school project benefits the community and engages youth through their environmentally-focused program. Nomination deadline is Feb. 1.
